Winter Storm Watch issued for Sunday through Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Sunday afternoon through Tuesday night throughout Northwest Washington, which includes all of Grays Harbor County but not Pacific County.

According to the update online, “heavy snow” is possible during that time as two storm systems move across the area. The first system will move across the area Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, bringing the potential of 1 to 3 inches of new snow. Another system will move in soon after the first Monday and continue through Tuesday, with potential for more significant snow through late Tuesday night.

The update says Monday through Tuesday could bring between 5 and 8 inches of new snow. It should be noted this update was given for essentially everywhere in western Washington, meaning some areas are likely to receive less snow than others.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.

For some towns in Pacific County like Long Beach and Raymond, a Special Weather Statement was released saying there will be especially cold air Saturday night, with overnight lows in the mid-20s along the coast, and into the middle and upper-teens for much of the interior in the further southwest parts of Washington.

In Aberdeen, snow got to around 2 or 3 inches in most places, with more in higher elevation areas like Sam Benn Park, where dozens of people went sledding Saturday.
