Willapa teacher strike doesn’t slow down Food Bowl

Willapa Valley schools were closed for a seventh day Tuesday due to a teachers strike. The district and the Willapa Valley Education Association met with a mediator starting at 10 a.m.

The district’s Holiday Music Concert scheduled for Wednesday has also been canceled and athletic events were rescheduled to be away from home.

The high school’s Associated Student Body (ASB) is still planning to hold Food Bowl activities this week to raise donations for local food banks.

On Wednesday, the ASB is holding a special showing of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at the New Life Fellowship in Raymond. The admission fee is a non-perishable food item or cash donation. There will be popcorn, drinks and snacks available for sale, with all proceeds going to the Food Bowl.

On Thursday, Willapa Valley will hold a McTakeover at the Raymond McDonald’s from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the restaurant will go to Food Bowl. Santa will also be there.

“We are so appreciative of our students’ desire to take action to positively impact our community,” said Nancy Morris, Willapa Valley School District superintendent.
