Wet road, illegal lane change factors in 101 crash north of Hoquiam

An illegal lane change and wet road led to a two-car crash on Highway 101 north of Hoquiam Thursday afternoon, according to the State Patrol.

A southbound vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone north of Dekay Road shortly after 12:30 p.m. As the driver attempted to get back into the southbound lane, he hit a patch of water, lost control and rotated, striking a northbound car on its drivers side, according to the State Patrol.

The southbound driver, a 28-year-old Hoquiam man, faces charges of second-degree negligent driving, no insurance, and driving while license suspended. Neither he nor a 4-year-old passenger were injured, according to the State Patrol.

The northbound driver, a 70-year-old Hoquiam man, was injured and transported himself to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
