A third Stafford Creek Corrections Center inmate died of complications from COVID-19 Saturday, according to a state Department of Corrections statement.
As of Jan. 15, Stafford Creek Corrections Center has had 661 COVID-19 cases in the last 30 days among the incarcerated population. As of Dec. 31, Stafford Creek Corrections Center has a total capacity for 1,942 individuals and a current population of 1,830.
The most recent data available from the state Department of Health shows Grays Harbor County with 2,709 cases of COVID-19 for the pandemic as of Saturday, Jan. 16. Since Jan. 10, the state data dashboard reports 149 new cases of COVID-19 in the county.
The county cases by zip code map was updated Friday and more than half the cases are attributed to the Aberdeen 98520 zip code, 1,470. Cases are spread throughout the county, with the higher numbers corresponding with the more populated cities.
Grays Harbor Public Health updated its transmission rates data Friday. Considering total cases, including Stafford Creek, the rate of community transmission, where a specific source of transmission can not be determined, was at 27.5% the week of Jan. 3-9. When Stafford Creek’s cases are taken out of the mix, that number climbs to 37.9%.
Cases by ethnicity, also updated Friday, shows a large number — 839 — listed as “unknown.” Cases among the white population stood at 1,026, and Hispanic 440, with 91 American Indian cases reported for the pandemic.
The state readiness dashboard had the rate per 100,000 population of newly diagnosed cases over the previous two weeks as of Jan. 14 at 431.5. The average daily COVID-19 molecular testing rate per 100,000 population over the previous week was 101.5, with 22.6% of tests coming back positive.
