State Patrol: Speed a factor in Tuesday morning crash on 101

Three injured when car leaves roadway, hits two trees

The Washington State Patrol is saying speed played a role in a Tuesday morning one-car accident on Highway 101.

A 38-year-old Aberdeen man was traveling northbound on 101 in a Chrysler 300 and attempted to pass a truck and trailer near milepost 97, about eight miles north of Hoquiam shortly after 4 a.m., according to the State Patrol report. Standing water on the roadway caused the vehicle to hydroplane, which sent the car into the southbound ditch, where it hit two trees before coming to rest.

A 19-year-old passenger from Aberdeen was also injured but refused aid, according to the report. The driver and another 24-year-old passenger from Hoquiam were taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries. The car was a total loss. The State Patrol investigation is ongoing.
