Dr. Canfield injured in crash on State Route 105

State Patrol cites medical emergency

Dr. Daniel Canfield of Aberdeen was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital after suffering a medical emergency while driving on State Route 105 Wednesday afternoon. His pickup truck went off the road and hit a tree.

A State Patrol memo said he was injured. Hospital officials refused a request for general information on his condition.

According to a State Patrol report, Canfield, 61, was southbound about seven miles south of Aberdeen when he lost consciousness. His 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup drifted to the right and struck a guardrail before leaving the road to the right, going down a 40-foot embankment and striking a tree.

Canfield was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Canfield was a member of the Aberdeen Fire Department years ago when the department launched a program to train firefighters to be medical responders. Eventually, he quit the department and attended medical school at Western University of Health Sciences. He is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and in the past has practiced at Grays Harbor Community Hospital.
