Simpson Avenue Bridge will be closed overnight starting Monday for paving

The Simpson Avenue Bridge in Hoquiam will close to all traffic between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. for five days starting Monday.

It’s part of the paving projects along Highway 101 through Aberdeen and Hoquiam, which will resurface a four-mile stretch of the roadway. The closure is necessary to allow crews from Rognlin’s Inc. to perform grinding and paving, according to the state Department of Transportation. Like the rest of the paving project, this work happens at night to reduce traffic impacts.

Crews will work at the intersection of Highway 101/10th Street in Hoquiam approaching the bridge starting at 8 p.m. Monday. The overnight closures are scheduled to end at 6 a.m. Saturday. A signed detour will direct eastbound travelers to the Highway 101 Hoquiam River Riverside Bridge, where two-way travel will be temporarily allowed.

The paving project extends the life of the highway and will reduce annual maintenance costs. Work will wrap up later this summer. The work and associated nightly closures could be rescheduled due to weather. Updates will be posted to the Department of Transportation’s Twitter feed, twitter.com/wsdot_tacoma.
