Sanders now holds narrow lead in presidential primary; Biden tops Harbor voting

Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen, Bernie Sanders were in a neck-and-neck battle after the first round of ballot counting across Washington state in Tuesday’s presidential primary.

As of Tuesday night, Sanders had 335,498 votes (32.7%) to 333,414 for Biden (32.5%).

With mail-in balloting, some ballots reflected votes for candidates who dropped out of the race as recently as last week.

Statewide, Elizabeth Warren had 126,093 votes (12.3%), Michael Bloomberg had 113,422 votes (11%), Pete Buttigieg garnered 59,868 (5.8%) and Amy Klobuchar had 31,425 (3.1%).

On the GOP side, President Donald Trump, running unapposed, collected 523,409 votes in total.

In Grays Harbor County, after the initial count Tuesday night, Biden garnered 2,781 votes for 31.5% to 2,742 for Sanders for 31.1%. Others who have dropped out but received hundreds of votes in the county — due to early voting — were Michael Bloomberg with 1,370 votes (15.5%), Elizabeth Warren with 770 (8.7%), Pete Buttigieg with 597 (6.8%) and Amy Klobuchar with 279 (3.1%).

Trump earned a total of 6,474 votes from declared Republicans in Garys Harbor.

In Pacific County, Sanders held an early lead after Tuesday night’s count at 867 votes (28.5%) with Biden at 818 (26.9%).

Bloomberg had 519 votes there for 17.1% and Warren garnered 350 votes (11.5%).

Trump garnered 2,739 Pacific County votes in the GOP primary.
