Rollover accident sends Westport man to the hospital Monday

State Patrol Report indicates inattentive driving was the cause of the crash

A 44-year-old Westport man was transported by aid vehicle to Grays Harbor Community Hospital after the car he was a passenger in swerved off State Route 105 at milepost 36, about 11 miles south of Aberdeen, Monday afternoon and wound up on its top in a ditch.

A State Patrol report said a gray 1989 Dodge Dakota pickup driven by a 63-year-old Anchorage, Alaska man was heading southbound when it encountered a vehicle ahead slowing to make a left turn. The driver of the Dodge swerved to avoid the slowing vehicle and lost control; the vehicle left the roadway to the right, entered a ditch, and rolled onto its top, according to the report.

The report states both the driver and his passenger, the 44-year-old Westport man, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The passenger’s condition is unknown; the driver was not injured. The Dodge pickup was totaled. The State Patrol does not believe drugs or alcohol played a part in the wreck and said the cause was driver inattention and the driver is facing potential charges for that cause.
