The Aberdeen woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars while employed at the now-defunct credit union where she worked pleaded guilty and was sentenced in Superior Court Monday to jail time and community service, and she will have to pay restitution amounting to more than $8,000.
Jason Walker with the Grays Harbor County Prosecutor’s Office said Jane L. Madtson was sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 30 days converted to 240 hours of community service. She was also ordered to pay $4,000 in restitution and about $4,300 to the credit union’s insurer.
An investigtion in August of 2016 found Madtson had stolen more than $3,000 from an account with the then-Community Hospital Credit Union, which merged with the Woodworkers Credit Union in 2015. The merged version later was acquired by yet another credit union.
The investigation required accessing a backup server as the hard drive on which the tranactions were recorded had been removed. In the end, Walker estimated she had stolen about $3,750, if not more, including paying herself twice in her last month of employment, which ended after the merger.
