Police investigating fire at Olympic Stadium

The fires were reported early Thursday morning.

Police detectives are investigating suspicious fires started at the Olympic Stadium early Thursday morning.

“This is an early, ongoing investigation with this suspicious fire,” said Chief Joe Strong in a news release. “We will have more information as it develops throughout the morning.”

Emergency services received a call at 6:30 a.m. reporting a grass fire near the bleachers inside the stadium, according to a Hoquiam Police Department news release.

Hoquiam Fire Department and police arrived and located multiple fires at the location, according to the news release. The fires were rapidly suppressed and early assessments indicate minimal damage, according to the news release. No injuries were reported.

Detectives with the Aberdeen and Hoquiam police departments investigated the area. The Hoquiam police ask anyone with home surveillance cameras within a four-block radius of the stadium to look at the video for suspicious activity, according to the news release.
