Ocean Shores Police investigated a report of a child abduction Wednesday afternoon and found the child was not abducted and the report is related to a custody dispute between parents, according to a statement from Sgt. David McManus.
“After investigating the situation, it was determined that this was an issue of a child custody dispute,” said McManus. “There is no reason to believe that the child is in any danger, and no one is being sought at this time.”
Officers responded to a child daycare facility in Ocean Shores around 1 p.m. when the child’s father reported that an unknown couple had picked up his 3-year-old son and left with him, said McManus.
“The investigation quickly showed that the person who picked up the child was his mother, and that the father and mother have been embroiled in a custody dispute through the court system,” said McManus. “At this point, neither parent has exclusive custody of the child, so no laws were broken for the mother to take the child.”
