Nominees

Citizen of the Year

Besides Dr. Gene Schermer, other nominees for Citizen of the Year include: Gabrielle Moreno of Raymond, Glennis and Michael Stamon of Hoquiam, and Judy Ball of Central Park.

Moreno was nominated for her efforts in Raymond, which include cooking meals and delivering them to her neighbors who are disabled or otherwise unable to get around easily. She also will go shopping, take out the garbage, and provide vegetables from her own garden to anyone who needs them.

The Stamons were nominated as a couple for their many hours of community service. Recently retired, both have dedicated many hours to the Hoquiam Police Department’s Crime Watch, Relay for Life and the Coastal Waters District Boy Scouts. Both are very active in their own church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal.

Ball is a volunteer cook for the Feed the Hungry program that operates at St. Mary’s Catholic Church each weekday. She takes whatever ingredients are available that day and makes meals for 35 to 120 people at a time. She also makes lunch twice a month at the Methodist Church, contributing fresh produce from her own garden to the meals.
