Nighttime single lane closures coming to 101 through Aberdeen

Sept. 14-18

Expect overnight lane closures of Highway 101 in Aberdeen starting Monday for pavement repairs to several sections of roadway from Myrtle Street east.

Multiple sections of roadway will be getting work from Sept. 14-18. Residents may hear increased noise levels during work hours, 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation. Sections of 101 will be reduced to a single lane during construction in the four mile stretch of roadway.

Portable message signs placed near this location will advise travelers to consider alternate routes.

Rognlin’s crews have continued to work from the intersection of 5th Street and State Route 109 in Hoquiam to the intersection of South H Street and East Heron Street in Aberdeen to make upgrades for pedestrians and nearly 150 ramps to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The City of Hoquiam has completed its $800,000 sidewalks project, which replaced deteriorating sidewalks through downtown to Myrtle Street.

The $5.6 million Department of Transportation project was to include new resurfacing of the roadway completed this year, but with COVID-19 restrictions on construction in the spring delaying projects around the state, final paving will be completed in 2021.

The work being done in Aberdeen, and similar work done the previous week on Simpson Avenue in Hoquiam, where degraded areas of the roadway are ground up and patched, is designed to give drivers a smoother ride in the months prior to the start of the repaving itself in the summer of 2021, said Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tina Werner.
