New leadership takes over South Beach Regional Fire Authority

The South Beach Regional Fire Authority announced the appointment of Daryl Brown as fire chief and Darin VanderVeur as assistant chief, after the retirement of Fire Chief Dennis Benn.

This leadership transition marks a new chapter for South Beach Regional Fire Authority as it continues its mission to provide exceptional fire protection and emergency services to the citizens of the South Beach community.

Chief Brown, a dedicated fire service professional, has been with South Beach Regional Fire Authority since October 2002, serving in various roles, including paramedic, firefighter, captain, and battalion chief of operations. His expertise in firefighting operations, community risk reduction and team development has earned him the respect and trust of colleagues and the community alike.

As fire chief, he will focus on advancing department operations, enhancing firefighter training and strengthening partnerships with community members and regional agencies.

“I am honored to serve as fire chief and lead the dedicated men and women of SBRFA,” said Chief Brown. “Together, we will build upon our foundation of excellence while embracing new opportunities to protect and serve our community.”

Assistant Chief Darin VanderVeur brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role, having served in the fire service for over 30 years. Known for his leadership in emergency response and his commitment to firefighter safety and training, Assistant Chief VanderVeur is dedicated to ensuring operational readiness and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the department.

“I’m excited to take on this new role and support Chief Brown in moving our department forward,” said Assistant Chief VanderVeur. “Our priority will always be the safety and well-being of our community and our crews.”

The official pinning ceremony and oath of office for Chief Brown and Assistant Chief VanderVeur occurred at the Feb. 13.

South Beach Regional Fire Authority is confident that under this new leadership, the department will continue to provide top-tier fire protection and emergency services while fostering strong connections with the community it serves.
