Montesano man sentenced for crash that seriously injured elderly Forks couple

A Montesano man was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Tacoma for a crash that left two Forks residents with permanent disabilities, according to a relase.

Kelly L. Landry was high on methamphetamine and marijuana in September when the truck he was driving for work crossed U.S. Highway 101 near Lake Crescent and collided head-on with another vehicle, the release from the office of Annette L. Hayes, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, states. Landry, 51, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release for vehicular assault.

The 80-year-old Forks resident who was driving the other vehicle and his wife, 70, “both suffered severe injuries, including a broken ankle, broken nose, fractured ribs and fractured wrist,” according to the release.

The case was prosecuted in federal court because the crash occurred on National Park Service land.

Landry also will have to pay restitution “for the victims’ medical bills, towing fees and other expenses,” the release states.
