Montesano Fire Chief Corey Rux is resigning effective June 30 to take the fire chief position with the Griffin Fire Department in Thurston County.

“This was a difficult decision to make and to be honest I did not think this day would come,” said Rux. “I was raised in this community and I have had the distinct honor to serve the citizens as a member of the Montesano Fire Department over the past 20 years. I cannot thank the community enough for their unwavering support, accommodation and opportunities provided to me and my family.”

Rux continued, “I am excited to start a new chapter in my life and I look forward to opportunities of growth in Thurston County, however, it is certainly with a heavy heart that I leave my position in Montesano. I want to specifically thank the City of Montesano, the Montesano Fire Department, the Montesano School District, the Montesano Business Community, the Montesano Chamber of Commerce and most importantly the Citizens of Montesano for the opportunity to serve you.”
