Man arrested after attacking Ocean Shores officers

Taser deployed, additional officers called in to assist with arrest

Ocean Shores Police officers responding to a complaint were assaulted by a 40-year old man who had to be tasered before complying with arresting officers, according to a department news release.

Officers were called to a residence in the 900 block of Mount Olympus Ave. SE just after 3 a.m. Friday.

Arriving officers found a 40-year old man “clearly exhibiting mental health issues,” said Ocean Shores Police Chief Mike Styner. The man became combative and assaulted officers as they attempted to arrest him. Additional units were called in from the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, along with more officers from Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Cosmopolis police.

“At one point the subject assaulted one of the officers with a bar stool,” said Styner. Officers hit the man with “numerous Taser applications,” after which the subject calmed down and was taken into custody when the additional officers arrived. The man was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for medical and mental health evaluation.”
