The Hoquiam Lions Club celebrated 75 years of community service in a March 23 event at the Hoquiam Elks Club.
The charter was issued by Lions Club International in February 1942. Club President Gary Morgan opened the evening by thanking everyone for their service to the Hoquiam community.
Guest speakers for the event were Aberdeen Lions President Steve Fowler, former District Governor Terry Sutfin from Vancouver, Wash., and 60-year Hoquiam Lions member Rudy Spanich. Entertainment was provided by Christine Hill and Ken Albert, who sang a song from each decade since 1940.
The Hoquiam Lions Club mission is to provide glasses and hearing aids for Hoquiam citizens in need. The club also supports local youth by offering five scholarships and donating to Food Ball and to the 7th Street Theatre Kids. In addition, the club donates time and funding to organizations such as the Salvation Army and the Hoquiam Food Bank.
