In the thick of it

Jay Izatt, owner of M.J. Izatt Tree Service, uses a chainsaw to cut off branches from an approximate 105-foot Redwood tree on Thursday. The branch removal is the first step to removing the tree that sits in front of Dick Isaacson’s home in the 900 block of North L Street, in Aberdeen. It will take a few days, at least, for the tree to be removed. The tree, age unknown, has provided shade for three generations of Isaacsons since 1923. Before the Isaacson family owned it, the Hood family — the original owners of the home — had it from 1907 until 1923, when Dick’s grandparents bought the house. Dick and his wife Judy are the third generation of Isaacsons to own the three-story home. “We kind of took the tree for granted,” Dick said to his younger brother, Steven Isaacson, as they watched Izatt work. “That’s because it was always there,” Steven Isaacson said.

Once the tree is gone from the front yard of Isaacson’s home, it’ll be a relief for Isaacson and his wife Judy. A couple branches fell two months ago and luckily they fell in such a way that neither the Isaacson’s home, nor their neighbor’s home, received any damage.
