Illegal firearms, suspected explosive found during Central Park search

A 64-year-old Abereen man was arrested Friday for unlawful possession of a firearm, illegal manufacture of a firearm suppressor and possession of an explosive device, according to Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office chief criminal deputy Brad Johansson.

Deputies, the FBI and the drug task force executed a search warrant in the 6400 block of Olympic Highway in Central Park after numerous complaints about firearms being discharged in the area, said Johansson. As a convicted felon, the suspect is not allowed to possess any firearms, but deputies discovered several during the search, along with an illegally manufactured suppressor. They also found a suspected explosive device, which was removed by a team from the State Patrol and FBI joint bomb squad.

Law enforcement was still gathering evidence and processing the scene on Friday, said Johansson, adding the investigation will continue into the possible sale of illegal suppressors.
