Homeless camp stabbing victim doesn’t want to press charges

Aberdeen police are looking into a stabbing at the homeless camp along the Chehalis River Wednesday, but they aren’t getting much cooperation from the victim.

Wednesday about 9:35 p.m. two Aberdeen officers were walking through the camp area and heard a commotion. They confronted a 33-year old Aberdeen woman and a 39-year old Hoquiam woman who who had just been involved in a physical altercation, police said.

The women said nothing happened, though on the ground was hair, apparently pulled from someone’s head. With both being uncooperative, the women were sent separate ways.

Just after midnight, officers were dispatched to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for a reported stabbing. Two different officers went to the hospital and contacted the 33-year old female from the earlier altercation. The woman said during the fight she felt a sharp pain on her back, but didn’t initially know she was stabbed. At the hospital, the victim was still reluctant to pursue a criminal complaint, police said, saying her assailant is a distant relative.

The original officers were sent back to investigate the scene, and found evidence to the stabbing. The victim made a statement about what happened, but also asked for and signed a waiver of prosecution.

The police department has referred the case to the Grays Harbor County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of charging.
