‘Heat On The Street’ this weekend in Elma

Grays Harbor County has a lot going on this month. From National Night Out to the Grays Harbor County Fair, families have a lot to choose from to get out and enjoy the weather.

However, in one East County town, residents don’t want people to miss out on a particular festival.

This weekend, the Elma Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 13th annual “Heat On The Street” Car and Motorcycle show. The event takes place over two days with a “Cruise-In Friday” and a “Show & Shine Saturday” in Elma.

Jillanna Bickford, who serves as the chamber director, said that this yearly festival is the biggest summer event in Elma and expects higher participation this year.

“Last year, we had more than 350 registered vehicles in the car show and around 3,500 people from all over the state come and join in the festivities,” Bickford said. “Given how we typically see the majority of our registrations come during the Cruise-In event, we’re expecting a bigger crowd this year and we’re excited about it.”

Bickford continued by saying there have already been 170 vehicle registrations for the event as of Monday, Aug. 1. She also said the festival will have around 20 different street vendors, half of them providing food ranging from wood-fired pizza, and corn on the cob to a wide variety of desserts among other things. A raffle, as well as a Hot Wheels Car Race for kids, will also take place on Saturday.

While the main event is scheduled for Saturday, Bickford encouraged people to participate in a more relaxed version with Cruise-in Friday. It will feature a BBQ with hamburgers, hot dogs, and curly fries hosted by the chamber of commerce. The event will also allow people to take their vehicles and follow the Elma Police Department chief for a drive-thru in the city.

While vehicle registration is not required to be part of the drive-thru for Friday’s event, it is required to be part of Saturday’s event. Registration is $28 for the first vehicle entered. Every subsequent entry will be $15. Registrations will be available at the Cruise-in, as well as on the Elma Chamber of Commerce website.

For people who are interested in attending Heat On The Street this year, Cruise-in Friday will be held on Aug. 5 from 4-6 p.m. and will be located from 3rd Street to Martin Street. Show & Shine Saturday will be held on Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be located from 1st Street through 6th Street.
