Grays Harbor Music Teachers Association (GHMTA) has awarded college scholarships to 10 local students pursuing degrees in music.
Students who are continuing working toward undergraduate degrees or beginning graduate studies include: Gordon Shaw of Aberdeen, who will enter the Master’s in Composition program at University of Oregon; Sara Burkhart of Elma, who will continue her major in Piano Pedagogy at Baylor University; Tommy Catron will continue his Music Education major at Central Washington University; Emma Jeanne Dorsch of Aberdeen will continue her Vocal Performance major at Western Washington University; and Foster Patterson of Aberdeen will continue his Music Education major at the University of Washington.
Students who are pursuing an AA in music or entering university undergraduate music programs in the fall include: Rylee Brown, who will major in Music Education at Central Washington University; Madeline Casey will major in Musical Theater at University of Montana; Sam Dorsch will major in Music Education at Western Washington University; Ben Jurasin will major in Music Education at Western Washington University; and Gabriel Parks will continue his music studies at Grays Harbor College.
This year, GHMTA awarded a total of $13,300 in scholarships — a new record for the association’s scholarship program, which was created in 1993. Scholarships are awarded annually by GHMTA to students from Grays Harbor and Pacific counties who are majoring or minoring in music.
Funds for these scholarships are raised through the annual GHMTA Musicale Benefit Concert. The next Musicale will be held in January 2026. The deadline for applying for a GHMTA scholarship next year is April 1, and applications may be found on the GHMTA website: www.ghmta.weebly.com.
