Grays Harbor Youth Works announced the dates and details for its 2020-21 program launch set to begin on Tuesday.
GHYW, which provides various educationally-based programs to high school students age 15-19, will hold a presentation meeting via Zoom at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting will contain information on the program’s various internship and entrepreneurship opportunities, its mentoring program and information on guest speakers, to name a few.
Some of the internships offered include a social media marketing internship, for students interested in pursuing a career in sales and marketing, and a video production internship for those interested in the aspects of video production.
Students completing internship programs will have the ability to earn scholarship money and school credit.
The internship programs and speaking engagements will be done on a virtual basis due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“We and our business hosts are practicing social distancing as we work together to provide career exploration and work experiences in safe and healthy ways,” said GHYW Program Coordinator Felicia Mullins.
Eight speakers have been scheduled for six speaking engagement dates beginning with Jason Henrickson, a Creative Operations Manager with amazon.com on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Others scheduled to speak include U.S. Navy personnel, representatives from Stericycle and Holistic Therapies Northwest, a claims investigator and representatives from the Grays Harbor Horse and Barn Management.
The speaking engagements are scheduled to run though Dec. 16 and will be done via Zoom or Facebook Live meetings.
GHYW has also partnered with the Westport Aquarium under a grant from Career Connect Washington to offer a “WAqua Youth Works STEM & Marine Science Program.” WAqua Youth provides students with an opportunity to design and build an underwater remote operated vehicle and us it to conduct scientific studies and film the county’s marine ecosystems.
“The meetings are all virtual, yet the science is hands-on,” Mullins said.
The orientation meeting for WAqua Youth Works is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23.
