Cities around the country are taking measures to combat food insecurity issues as the federal government shutdown continues and SNAP benefits hang in the balance. Well over 15,000 people in Grays Harbor County receive SNAP benefits, which accounts for 20% of the County’s residents, and is the fourth highest percentage in Washington state.
“The courts said the Trump Administration must keep providing SNAP benefits, but the Administration is still planning to cut them in half meaning nearly one million Washingtonians may not be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with their families,” said U.S. Senator. Maria Cantwell (D-WA). “Americans are being pushed to their limits with rising costs and making sure families don’t go hungry shouldn’t be a partisan issue.”
In the meantime, there are numerous organizations and agencies in and around Grays Harbor feeding the hungry and filling in the gaps. Pet food resources are listed as well. If you know of any other emergency food resources that are not listed below, email michael.wagar@thedailyworld.com.
