Five new COVID-19 cases reported in Pacific County Thursday

Pacific County Public Health reported five new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, bringing the total for the county to 127.

Public health provided a breakdown of the new cases and how they may have contracted the virus: a female, 30-40 years old, workplace exposure; a female, 40-50 years old, workplace exposure; a male, 40-50 years old, out of county travel; and a male and female, both 60-70 years old, undetermined.

All five are isolating at home. Case investigations and contact tracing are on-going.

Wednesday, prior to the five new cases when the case total stood at 122, the county had reported its new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population number for the previous two weeks was 23.1, within the “low” COVID-19 activity level as defined by state Department of Health guidelines.

According to those guidelines, activities like modified in-person learning and some sports or extracurricular activities can occur when the rate is 25 or fewer, according to a county update provided by Pacific County Emergency Management Director Scott McDougall.

The rate had dropped from 87.8 per 100,000 Oct. 21, then 41.6 Oct. 28. By comparison, the number in Grays Harbor County as of Wednesday was 145.6 per 100,000, Lewis County 101.9, and Wahkiakum County 47.7, according to the state coronavirus dashboard.

There are 12 “probable cases” being monitored by public health Wednesday, along with 14 active cases also being monitored. Of the cases, minus the most recent five, public health considers 120 of them “closed,” no longer monitored by public health, up eight since the Oct. 28 report.

As of Wednesday, 3,503 COVID-19 tests have been administered to county residents. A total of 6,060 cases have been given in the county by Pacific County Health Care and public health; 1.5% of tests have come back confirmed positive for the virus.
