Fire destroys home in South Aberdeen

Early morning blaze on King Street

At 1:30 Monday morning, Aberdeen Fire was dispatched to a structure fire in the 400 block of W. King Street in South Aberdeen.

The first arriving Aberdeen Fire engine from the South Aberdeen station, reported that the entire back half of the structure was involved in fire and the two occupants of the home had safely evacuated.

Defensive firefighting was continued until the fire was brought under control enough to allow firefighters inside to completely extinguish the remaining fire. The fire took approximately 45 minutes to bring under control.

The home, about 800 square feet, was valued at approximately $31,000 and is considered a total loss.

A total of 18 firefighters responded from Aberdeen including the Command Unit, two engines, one ladder truck, three medic units as well as the fire chief and assistant chief. Two firefighters responded from Hoquiam.

One firefighter sustained some minor burns that were treated on scene.

The fire is still under investigation.
