DUI suspected in two weekend wrecks

Two weekend wrecks in Grays Harbor County involving drivers allegedly under the influence sent two to the hospital, one to Harborview Medical Center, according to the State Patrol.

Saturday, shortly before midnight, a 22-year-old Olympia driver was westbound on Highway 12 at East Park Street in Oakville when his 1991 Toyota Corolla crossed the center line and struck a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup heading eastbound, according to the State Patrol. The Olympia driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to Harborview, the Patrol report said.

The pickup driver, a 33-year-old Winlock man, was not injured, nor were his three passengers, including two juveniles, according to the State Patrol. The cause of the accident was the Olympia driver crossing over the center line and the Olympia driver could face charges of driving under the influence, said the State Patrol.

Shortly before 7:30 a.m. Sunday, a 34-year-old Tokeland woman was driving northbound on State Route 105 about 13 miles south of Aberdeen when, the State Patrol said, she fell asleep at the wheel, drifting off the right shoulder. The driver awoke, over corrected and her 1998 Honda Accord spun in a counterclockwise direction, crossed both lanes and came to rest against a tree.

The car was a total loss, the driver was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries. The State Patrol listed the cause of the crash as driving under the influence.
