Domestic violence assault suspect arrested in downtown Aberdeen

A 25-year-old Grays Harbor transient was arrested in Aberdeen Monday morning after he reportedly attacked his girlfriend in a downtown motel, using a two-foot-long piece of wood that appeared to be from a piece of furniture.

Aberdeen Police officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic violence assault in progress around 8:55 a.m.

“Upon arrival, officers spoke to the female victim in their room,” said Aberdeen Police Commander Dale Green. “She was bleeding heavily from a head wound and also sustained a hand injury. The suspect had fled the scene on foot and officers were searching for him as the Aberdeen Fire Department was called to treat the victim.”

The suspect was located by officers shortly after that, running through the Safeway parking lot still carrying the weapon. The suspect attempted to flee, but once contained he complied with officers’ commands, said Green, and was arrested.

The victim was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for treatment. The suspect was booked into the city of Aberdeen Jail for second-degree assault/domestic violence.
