Calls to emergency service providers

Calm cop averts apparent suicide attempt

A woman straddling the railing of the Chehalis River Bridge was saved by the calm, swift actions of Aberdeen Police Lt. Ross Lampky on Wednesday evening. After being alerted to the situation by a passing motorist at about 8:25 p.m., Lampky, who knew the 31-year-old Hoquiam woman, was able to establish a rapport with her. When she asked for a cigarette, Lampky pointed to a nearby officer, distracting the woman long enough to allow him to pull her backward off the railing. She was transported to the hospital to speak with a mental health care provider.
