DAR awards 20 youth citizenship medals

The Robert Gray Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently awarded DAR Youth Citizenship Medals to 20 students in Grays Harbor. The award is presented to students who exemplify qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism.

Each student received a framed certificate and a medal with his or her name engraved on the back. Robert Gray Chapter members presented awards to students at the following schools:

Micah Blackman, Adventist Christian; Evalyn Marsh, Ocosta Jr./Sr. High; Bella Cockerilla, Lake Quinault; Grace Smith, Elma Middle; Willobelle Valentine, Simpson; Brayden Howe, Cosmopolis; Gilbert Madrigal and Kristin Temaj, Robert Gray; Daisy Vessey and Arika Flink, Stevens; Khi’lyn Krukoff and Nancy Cerda, A.J. West; Cole Niemi and Mija Hood, McDermoth; Alyssa Yakovich and Alex Garcia, Central Park; Keara Burns, Saint Mary; Aleah Clevenger, Wishkah Valley; Elton Rockey, Ocean Shores; and Edmond Wilkerson, Pacific Beach.

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was established in 1890. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, patriotism and honoring the patriots of the Revolutionary War.

The Robert Gray Chapter of DAR was established in 1913 and serves all of Grays Harbor. Membership is open to any woman, 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.
