Cruz-Simpson to be sworn in as new Hoquiam Police officer Monday

Local product graduated from Hoquiam High School, Grays Harbor College

Police Services Officer Breaunna Cruz-Simpson graduated from the Corrections Officers Academy at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission academy in Burien last Friday and will be sworn in as a new Hoquiam Police officer by Mayor Jasmine Dickhoff at Monday’s Hoquiam City Council meeting.

Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Meyers said Cruz-Simpson is a local product, a graduate of Hoquiam High School who earned her associate’s degree in criminal justice from Grays Harbor College. She had previously been with the Hoquiam Police Explorer Program, “and her experience with the department was certainly a plus in the hiring process,” said Myers.

Currently, Cruz-Simpson is completing her field training in the city jail and will soon be assigned to a squad. She, like all other officers in Hoquiam, has been covering corrections, records and code enforcement at the department since joining in June.
