Courthouse getting emergency repairs

Interior plaster, art also will need to be fixed.

The Grays Harbor County Courthouse in Montesano is undergoing some emergency repairs this week.

Water has leaked in from the roof and damaged plaster and decorative painting in both third floor Superior Court courtrooms. The murals that adorn multiple walls in the courthouse were not damaged.

Phase 1 is “emergency roof repair” to stop the leaking, Mark Cox, the county’s director of community development, said in an email. It will cost less than $10,000.

Phase 2 will involve interior repairs. Cox said he would not be surprised if the cost to repair plaster and painting is between $10,000 and $20,000, depending on the extent of the damage. The county will post the project on its Bids and Small Works website (tinyurl.com/GHC-SmallBids) once the scope of the work is determined.

John Lupo Roofing began work on the roof Wednesday. The county expected the company to begin sealing and and repairing the roof Thursday and finish the exterior project Friday.
