During the past few weeks of city council meetings in and around Grays Harbor County, a vote of no confidence has been taken, board members have been appointed, speakers have given presentations, and motions and resolutions have been passed.
Here is a round-up of recent city council activity:
Aberdeen
David Marcell from the Grays Harbor Conservation District presented.
Renowned anti-drug activist Michael DeLeon spoke and offered his curricula to the city of Aberdeen and its educators for free.
Parks Director Stacie Barnum authorized to hire a contractor to install permanent fencing at the Pioneer Park maintenance shop.
Barnum detailed a plan to replace sidewalks and trees along three blocks of Market Street.
Council voted to adopt the 2025 Stormwater Management Program plan.
Councillor Debi Pieraccini appointed to the Arts Commission.
Victor Osina appointed to the Parks Board.
Elma
Held a first public hearing on B&O (business and occupation) tax.
Hoquiam
Nick Bird, Aberdeen’s city engineer, spoke on the Railroad Corridor Study. This consists of six rail crossings to study for horn noise elimination.
Councillor Elizabeth Reid was voted to be the chair of the Public Safety Committee for 2025.
Council awarded a contract for tree planting at the watershed to Ramon Coronel Reforestation, for $7,250.
Council voted to pass an ordinance repealing Chapter 1.53 to the Hoquiam Municipal Code thus dissolving the library board. The board hadn’t met since 2012. Friends of the Library essentially handles the same functions.
McCleary
The Port of Grays Harbor’s Kayla Dunlap presented an update on the state of the Port.
Council approved expenditure for 2025 Otta Seal, asphalt surface treatment, for multiple locations.
Passed a resolution declaring an emergency to purchase a meter reading program and hardware to replace the existing system.
Unanimously passed a resolution expressing a vote of “no confidence” in Mayor Chris Miller and deeming Miller unfit for office.
Entered into the record an open letter from Mayor Chris Miller to the city of McCleary residents and businesses refuting the city council’s assertions.
Passed a resolution in support of the city of McCleary Light and Power — IBEW Local 77.
Montesano
Roger Swalander, Grays Harbor Disposal site manager for LeMay, presented.
Nicholson & Associates Insurance also presented.
2025 tree planting bid awarded to Ramon Coronel Reforestation.
Ocean Shores
Announced a Fire Cadet program.
Discussed the effectiveness of the new cobble berm on the south shore.
Appointed Connie Clifford, James Pace and Jeff Owen to the Fresh Waterways Advisory Committee, and reappointed Jeff Byerly and appointed Paul Winchester to the Parks Board.
Declared three city owned properties on Point Brown Avenue surplus and authorized the sale of the properties.
