Central county firefighters fight Aberdeen structure fire Saturday

All humans, two guinea pigs rescued without incident

Aberdeen and Hoquiam firefighters responded Saturday to a call for a structure fire on Young Street on Saturday that ended up pulling in reinforcements from surrounding departments.

The initial call, after residents were alerted by smoke alarms, saw a response from the two departments, according to an Aberdeen Fire Department social media post. Crews investigating reported an active fire, and began deploying to knock down the fire, before requesting a second alarm.

Crews from Hoquiam, Cosmopolis, Grays Harbor Fire District 2 and additional off-duty personnel responded, according to the social media post. An adult and two children, as well as two guinea pigs, were evacuated from the structure as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

“This is a good reminder to make sure your smoke alarms are working properly and if you are using a wood-burning stove, have your chimney inspected and cleaned annually,” said the social media post.
