Fire destroyed a house in Aberdeen late Friday night, claiming the life of one person.
The Aberdeen Fire Department said they found the body of someone believed to be living in the house. Aberdeen Police detective Kristi Lougheed said this person was the only one in the building when the fire happened. There were no other injuries.
Just before midnight on Friday, firefighters responded to a fire at 410 N. Alder St. in Aberdeen. Upon arriving, units found the house fully engulfed by the fire, which also damaged a neighboring house.
A second alarm was quickly called for.
It took more than an hour for the 18 firefighters to bring the fire under control. The Aberdeen Fire Department also had help from the Hoquiam Fire Department, and Grays Harbor Fire District 2.
The structure received approximately $98,000 in damage, making it a total loss, while the neighboring house sustained about $6,500 in damage to its exterior wall, according to the Aberdeen Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Aberdeen Police and Fire Departments.
The occupants of the neighboring structure sustained no injuries and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
