Bloody scene on Sumner believed to be from a deer

A bloody scene in the 2200 block of Sumner Avenue prompted a response by the Aberdeen Police Department Thursday morning.

After an investigation that blocked one lane of Sumner, police believe a deer had been killed and dragged from the scene.

A resident reported hearing a sound like somebody dragging something alongside their house. When a family member woke up later, they discovered fresh blood on the outside of the residence and on the side of their vehicle, according to Commander Dale Green.

Officers were alerted at 6:23 a.m. and “set up a perimeter around the area to attempt to locate additional evidence and a potential victim,” said Green. “Additional examination of the blood and hair evidence indicated it was likely a deer.”

Detectives, “out of an abundance of caution,” collected blood samples, said Green. The animal was not located. It was not immediately known if the animal had been struck by a vehicle or illegally killed and taken from the scene.
