Ballots go out for the general election

The ballots are out: As of Wednesday, 41,800 ballots mailed out to voters of Grays Harbor. The ballots should be received by Friday. There were 70 ballots, already mailed out to Grays Harbor residents living overseas or serving in the U.S. Military.

You will not need a stamp for this election: All the election ballots mailed out for this general election will have prepaid postage. No need to get a stamp.

This general election includes federal, state, countywide elected offices and statewide ballot measures on the ballot.

Ballots will be received until 8 p.m. on Nov. 6 on Election Day at the election drop boxes and drop site.

Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before Nov. 6. Since post offices pick up times vary dropping your ballot in the mail election day, or at the post office on election day does not guarantee it will be postmarked in time. Drop off your ballot early or if you go into the post office have them time stamp it. Any ballot dropped off at the Auditor’s Office or in an election drop site or drop box will be received by the deadline.

Some changes in the ballot look: No more squares. This is the second election the Elections Department with be using an updated new tabulation and ballot design system called Clear Ballot. The new ballots will no longer have the square to shade in but will have an oval. Otherwise the ballot will look the same.

You will need to declare as a candidate to be a write-in: Due to recent legislative changes write-in candidates will need to fill out a declaration of candidacy form before 8 p.m. on the last day of the election. There may be filing fees depending on the office and date you file.

New drop boxes

The cities of Westport and Oakville will both have election ballot drop boxes located at their city halls. The drop boxes are currently being installed and should be open shortly to receive ballots.
