Aberdeen woman arrested for using bank cards from lost wallet

A lost wallet Friday landed an Aberdeen woman in jail the following day with charges of possession of stolen property and identity theft, according to Aberdeen police.

Aberdeen Police Lt. Kevin Darst said it started when a man discovered he had lost his wallet, apparently while taking his keys out of his pocket. The man called to cancel his bank cards but, according to Darst, discovered somebody had already used one. The victim was able to get the time and location of the transaction and report it to an officer. The officer reviewed security footage and viewed the suspect using the card, a woman he was able to identify.

The woman was traced to an Aberdeen residence and arrested Saturday, said Darst. She was booked into the Aberdeen City Jail.

“Remember if you find someone else’s property, you should return it to them or call the police,” said Darst. “Besides being the right thing to do, it is also a crime to keep it.”
