There are 19 registered block parties for Tuesday’s National Night Out across Aberdeen and Hoquiam, and each will get a visit from their respective city’s police, fire and elected officials.
Hoquiam Chief of Police Jeff Myers said the interest has been so high in the event this year the departments have had to split into two teams to cover all the block party locations, 12 in total. Most block parties run 6-8 p.m.

National Night Out started in 1984, created by a national neighborhood watch organization. In 34 years, the event has grown from 400 participating locations to 16,000 communities in 38 million neighborhoods today. The neighborhood block parties are an opportunity for community members to meet with their public safety and city officials, not to mention each other, and are designed to promote local anti-crime and anti-drug efforts and increase public safety awareness.
