Aberdeen’s cold weather shelter has moved to 1401 Simpson Ave., the former West Aberdeen supermarket once known colloquially as “the middle Swanson’s.”
The shelter opened Nov. 1 and is open seven days a week through the end of March, 9 p.m. to 7 p.m. for adults age 18 and older with no other options for shelter. The shelter was originally located at the Aberdeen Senior Center, which served as a placeholder until the current location was selected.
Greg Claycamp with Coastal Community Action Program said, “We expect the shelter will remain at this location for the rest of the cold weather season.”
Shelter access is not contingent on sobriety, and participation in services of any kind is voluntary. It will serve adults 18 and older, of all genders, as space and volunteer capacity allows. Shelter rules will be limited and focus on safety for guests and staff. The shelter follows COVID-19 precautions including mandatory masks and social distancing.
Interested volunteers should contact Jeff Simmons at jeffs@coastalcap.org or call 360-660-5056. Donations of non-perishable foods, hygiene items, socks, coffee supplies, or bottled water may be dropped off at Coastal Community Action Program at 101 E. Market St. during business hours or brought to the shelter when in operation.
