Good for what ails you: extended clinic hours in Aberdeen

Walk-in medical centre now open five days a week in centre of Grays Harbor

When it comes to looking after your health, you may be fortunate to have a regular family physician or nurse practitioner helping to keep things in check.

If not, or if a non-emergency situation crops up at a time when you can’t get in to see your regular health-care provider, having a reliable walk-in clinic close at hand is invaluable.

The availability of on-demand health care got a boost in Grays Harbor recently, when the walk-in clinic at Swanson’s Supervalu in Aberdeen extended its opening hours to five days a week. Drop in between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and you’ll find a nurse practitioner ready to listen to your personal health concerns.

“This opens things up so that more people in our communities can take advantage of the service,” says Lewis Bumstead, operations manager at Swanson’s Supervalu. They were pleased to find a third nurse practitioner to work the clinic on the two extra days. “Our goal was to try to make things more convenient for our customers.”

Routine check or unusual circumstance, the clinic now gives you more options:

  • Need a flu shot? – Fall is the time to start thinking about getting your protection from whatever strain of influenza is prevalent this year.
  • Your good buddies – Truckers needing a Department of Transport exam can get ‘er done here! Just ask for the details.
  • One-stop shop – If you stop by the clinic for help with an issue and wind up having a prescription written by the nurse practitioner, you can have it filled easily in-store at the Pharmacy next door, which keeps the same hours as the clinic.
  • Have questions? – Not sure whether the clinic is the place to come for your health concerns, or unsure about pricing or insurance coverage? Give them a call first at 360-637-9421.

The staff and management at Swanson’s are proud of their commitment to serving the community and do their best to make you feel at home when you visit. That speaks to the wording on a new sign installed last month, which reads, “Our Neighborhood Health Centre.”

Healthy foods close at hand

On the topic of health and handiness, why not shop for your fresh produce, top-quality meats and poultry, and whole grains before you head out? Swanson’s truly is your one-stop shop, Bumstead says.

“We want people to know that we’re here and we’re going to stay here to service the community.”
