A natural leader — Mirna Jimenez’s path from cashier to management

Aberdeen food store employee rewarded for embracing responsibility

When Mirna Jimenez first started working as a cashier at Swanson’s Foods in Aberdeen, she showed an immediate interest in taking on responsibility.

Jimenez began her career at Swanson’s in 2015, and since then her desire to learn and grow has taken her through many roles to the management level.

By the time she’d been with them for two years, she’d already taken on the role of Person in Charge of a staff of eight to sixteen people throughout the store, covering a variety of shifts.

“This responsibility grew into Mirna becoming our store trainer for the grocery department,” says Swanson’s Operations Manager Lewis Bumstead. “And, when COVID started she also stepped into the role of running our safety meetings, making sure all safety measures during and after the pandemic were being met.”

At the same time, her expanding responsibilities saw her take over ordering duties for the dairy department, as well as product loss control.

“Mirna has recently taken yet another step up into a manager’s role at Swanson’s Foods, and I’m glad to say she’s doing a great job!” Bumstead says.

Jimenez was born in Nayarit, Mexico and grew up in San Fernando, California before moving to Aberdeen at 13 years old. “And she’s been an Aberdeen Bobcat ever since!” Bumstead says.

When she’s not busy taking on new positions and duties at Swanson’s, Jimenez enjoys reading and spending time with her family.

As for what she enjoys most about a day at work, Jimenez says, “I really like interacting with my co-workers and getting their feedback on things, but my favorite part of a day is greeting our customers and getting to know them.”

Since 1905 Swanson’s foods has served the communities of Grays Harbor with great deals on essential products, fresh produce and meats, and meals on-the-go options.

You’ll find all of this – and friendly down-home service – at their two locations at 915 Simpson Ave. in Hoquiam and 217 North Boone St. in Aberdeen.
