Harbor Art Guild is ready to open Six Rivers Gallery on Friday in its new space at the Aberdeen Art Center.
Jenny Fisher, artist and board member, was there Wednesday with artist Nancy Eichenberger, setting up displays.
The move from the gallery’s original site in Hoquiam began May 24. “It’s been a lot more work than I thought it would be,” said Fisher. “We had been there since 2008. It was very small, but we sure had a lot of stuff.”
She said the guild had been looking for several years for a new location that would have better foot traffic. “We were our own best customers there,” she laughed.
Douglas Orr, director of the Art Center, also is a board member of the guild. Knowing they were looking to move, he suggested the Aberdeen site. Six Rivers is taking the space he had been using, and he’s moving his own gallery to the last big space in the building at 200 W. Market St.
Orr said the only spot left to fill at this point is “this weird little space that would make a really nice coffee house/gathering place.”
Six Rivers’ first exhibit in its new space is “Terra Firma: Things of the Earth.” It features 17 artists in media ranging from oil and watercolors to jewelry.
The gallery will hold regular hours Friday from noon until 5, followed by an opening reception during the Art Center’s First Friday event.
Other activities between 5 and 8 p.m. will include art and jewelry demonstrations by local artists, as well as live music by two solo guitarists.
