Offbeat entertainer Norman Foote will take the stage Sunday afternoon at the Raymond Theatre.
Foote, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, has received international acclaim for his songwriting, humor and use of “props with an attitude.” His adaptations of nursery rhymes sung by rock stars spotlight his talent for creating material that bridge the generation gap.
He also has written original songs for Walt Disney Records, CBC Television and Shari Lewis, among many others. He received a 2010 Juno Award for Children’s Record of the Year.
At age 11, his parents gave him his first guitar, which he describes as a finely crafted instrument from the Sears catalog. When he was 20, he traveled to Australia and New Zealand and made a living as a street performer. He developed an interest in puppetry and physical comedy through his association with a traveling theatre troupe in New South Wales, Australia.
This will be Foote’s first visit to Raymond.
His show will begin at 2 p.m. as part of the historic theater’s Sunday Afternoon Live for Youth series. Tickets are $5. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
