One surefire way to add cheer to the holiday home is with a brightly flowering plant. Poinsettias in their many new colors, Christmas cactus and amaryllis are popular holiday plants and are widely available in our area.
“Holiday Plants for the Home,” the final 2018 First Saturday workshop sponsored by the WSU Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties, will be held this weekend. Learn how to take care of your holiday plant so that you can enjoy it beyond the winter months; or, if you are planning to give one as a gift, you will be able to include tips on its care.
The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the WSU Extension Office meeting room at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma. There is no charge for this class, and reservations are not required.
Master Gardeners will also demonstrate the best way to force bulbs, such as crocus, snowdrops and anemone. Take home the bulb that you pot up during class to enjoy this winter.
After the workshop, there will be a plant clinic. Ask your gardening questions or bring examples of problems you are experiencing in your garden.
