Marine expert Alan Rammer will present “Razor Clams A to Z” at the Westport Maritime Museum on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Rammer spent decades with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, retiring in 2009 as head of the agency’s marine education and outreach program. Since his retirement, he has shared his vast knowledge of marine life and all things beach-related with groups around the globe.
Rammer’s talk is on the eve of the area’s next scheduled razor clam dig, slated for Sunday afternoon at Mocrocks Beach. That opener is dependent on domoic acid tests, which are required to make sure the clams are safe for human consumption.
John Shaw, director of the museum, said a portion of Rammer’s presentation will focus on domoic acid and how the state Department of Health assesses the danger level.
The museum will host the talk in McCausland Hall, 2201 Westhaven Drive in Westport.
