The Kiwanis North Beach Kids Christmas Party will take place at the Ocean Shores Convention Center on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. As many as 500 kids ages 12 and under from the North Beach and Taholah school districts will share in more than 1,300 donated gifts and holiday treats.
The event involves a mountain of free toys and is the result of a yearlong effort to buy, collect, store, wrap, haul and, finally, hand out the giftss. Coordinated for many years by Donovan and Pat Scott, the event enjoys communitywide support and is conducted under the Kiwanis Club banner, which means contributions of cash and merchandise are tax-deductible.
At the party, each child receives three gifts, choosing one toy from selections offered at each of three value levels. Each also has a chance to win one of about 120 premium gifts, including bicycles and giant stuffed animals.
The annual project also provides clothing, everything from pajamas to boots, to needy kids. Last year 88 clothing gift packages were wrapped.
