Jimmy Stewart in “Rear Window” at 7th St. Theatre March 11-12

The film is ranked by the American Film Institute as No. 48 of the Greatest Movies of All Time.

Alfred Hitchcock’s suspense thriller “Rear Window” is the latest offering at Grays Harbor’s historic 7th St. Theatre. The 1954 release will be shown Saturday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at the theater, located at 313 Seventh St. in downtown Hoquiam.

Nominated for four Academy Awards, the film tells the story of photographer L. B. “Jeff” Jeffries, who is temporarily wheelchair-bound with a broken leg. With only the occasional distraction of a visiting nurse and his beautiful love interest, his attention is drawn to the courtyard outside his “rear window” and the occupants of the apartment building across the alley.

Played by James Stewart, Academy Award winner for The Philadelphia Story, Jeff becomes obsessed by the private dramas of his neighbors’ lives, which play themselves out before his eyes. Eventually, he comes to suspect that a salesman (Raymond Burr) may have murdered his wife. Alas, he has no proof and no one believes him. However, things start coming together in a way that makes it look like he might be right after all. Finally Jeff, his girlfriend Lisa (Oscar winner Grace Kelly) and his nurse Stella (played by Thelma Ritter) come up with a plan to catch the killer.

The film is ranked by the American Film Institute as the No. 48 Greatest Movies of All Time. It was shot on what was then the largest indoor film set ever built. Director Hitchcock had his trademark cameo appearance, this time in the apartment of a songwriter, played by real life songwriter Ross Bagdasarian, better known as David Seville, creator of Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Tickets are $6 and are available at the door or in advance at Harbor Drug and Crown Drug in Hoquiam, City Drug in Aberdeen online at www.7thstreettheatre.com.
